Crystal Obeidzinski is a born and raised Louisianan who has been happily encouraged to pursue art since she was about six years old. She attended Louisiana State University, receiving a Bachelors degree in Fine Arts. She has resided in New Orleans working solely as an artist since 2010.

Crystal's journey as an artist truly unfolded when she discovered the power of reclaimed wood. Drawn to its history, its whispers of past lives, she saw potential where others saw waste. She began salvaging wood from dilapidated buildings, forgotten scrapyards, and abandoned warehouses, breathing new life into these forgotten relics.

Her artistic process is a true homage to New Orleans. Each piece starts with meticulous cleaning and restoration of the wood, much like the city constantly reinventing itself while preserving its rich heritage. The wood becomes her canvas, she collages discarded newspaper and magazine clippings, as well as carefully curated photographs of her own shoots. She then paints with a blend of additional facts and hidden information tucked amidst vibrant, bold colors, capturing the city's heartbeat, its jazz rhythms, and essence of the community. Each piece is unique with thoughtfully applied layers building up to the overall image which captures the viewers attention instantaneously.

Themes and Inspiration: Crystal's art is a tribute to the city's multiculturalism, spirituality, and vibrant celebrations. Her works often feature depictions of serene nature scenes, timeless architectural renderings, and a multitude of lively musicians. She imbues her pieces with the warmth of the people who call New Orleans home as well as the mysteries of the bayou.

Her use of reclaimed wood and found objects is not only an artistic choice, but a statement on sustainability and the importance of preserving the environment. Each painting tells a story of transformation and renewal, much like the city itself.

This process has developed greatly over the years, but still maintains the same concept which she swears by, "Always trust your intuitive mark, after all, it is just paint."
